What is a baby porcupine called?

A baby porcupine is called a porcupette. They are usually born with soft quills that harden and darken as they grow older. Porcupettes are typically around 7-11 inches long at birth and weigh only a few ounces. They are born with their eyes open and are able to walk within a few hours of birth. Porcupettes stay close to their mother for the first few months of their lives, nursing and learning essential skills from her. They typically start eating solid food around 2-3 months of age and will continue to stay with their mother until they are able to fend for themselves.
